SUPERFAST WET: Massimo Tomasino’s Feedback for ZZIPP Group at Castellammare Art Music Week
At Castellammare Art Music Week 2026, Lighting Designer Massimo Tomasino took on this challenge by integrating STARWAY SUPERFAST WET fixtures into his lighting design.
From creative choices and technical constraints to the need for versatility, he looks back at the design of the show and the SUPERFAST WET features that particularly stood out to him.
One lighting rig, two worlds
For its 2026 edition, Castellammare Art Music Week brought together two very different worlds: Antonello Venditti’s concert on the opening night, followed by the DJ sets of the Unlocked Music Festival.
For Massimo Tomasino, the challenge was therefore to design a lighting rig capable of meeting the requirements of a pop-rock show while remaining versatile enough to adapt to the much more dynamic world of electronic performances.
To achieve this, the Lighting Designer started directly from the available fixture inventory to build his lighting design.
“I worked ‘backwards’: it was the fixture inventory that dictated the lighting design.” — Massimo Tomasino, Lighting Designer
The central area of the stage was deliberately kept cleaner, while the side layers carried more of the effects.
This approach also allowed the role of the STARWAY fixtures to evolve depending on the performance. During Antonello Venditti’s live show, they were used mainly for scenic purposes, with prisms, colours and slow movements. During the DJ sets, their role became more dynamic and effects-driven.
SUPERFAST WET: speed and versatility in a compact format
Among the fixtures integrated into the rig, the SUPERFAST WET particularly impressed Massimo Tomasino with its movement speed.
Despite its compact size, the Lighting Designer also highlights its performance and visual impact. Even with a limited number of SUPERFAST WET units, careful positioning enabled them to make a real impact on the show.
“What weighed most in the decision were the speed and the compact footprint.” — Massimo Tomasino, Lighting Designer
Its compact footprint also made it easy to position the fixtures in a wide variety of configurations: on the deck, flown or vertically.
Compact and lightweight: two key advantages on site
Beyond speed, Massimo Tomasino particularly emphasises the combination of compact size and low weight offered by the SUPERFAST WET.
In an event lighting setup, these characteristics have a direct impact on the design of the rig: weight on the truss, footprint, rigging possibilities and even the visibility of the fixtures within the overall scenography.
“The real strength is the ratio between compactness and light weight.” — Massimo Tomasino, Lighting Designer
He highlights the SUPERFAST WET’s ability to deliver, in a small and lightweight format, capabilities usually associated with significantly larger and bulkier fixtures.
Gobos, prisms and continuous 360° rotation
The SUPERFAST WET also gave Massimo Tomasino plenty of room to explore different creative possibilities throughout the festival.
Among the features he used most were gobos and prisms, along with continuous 360° rotation.
He also highlights the ability to black out the fixture while it is moving, making it possible to determine the exact point at which the beam switches off during a rotation.
The work with prisms also produced some of the show’s most noticeable effects. By moving between 6- and 8-facet prisms and playing with clean transitions, Massimo Tomasino created looks that some people perceived as special effects in their own right.
SUPERFAST WET put to the test in a live environment
The experience at Castellammare Art Music Week demonstrates the versatility Massimo Tomasino was looking for when designing the show.
The same fixture was able to support two different lighting approaches: a more scenic and progressive role for the pop-rock concert, followed by a more rhythmic and dynamic use during the DJ sets.
Speed, compactness, low weight and creative possibilities: Massimo Tomasino’s experience highlights the versatility of the STARWAY SUPERFAST WET in an event environment requiring a high degree of adaptability.
